Keeping Your Life in Motion Richard McClain, DO Allied Bone and joint KEEPING YOUR LIFE IN MOTION When your body suffers a debilitating injury, or breaks down, and you are faced with orthopedic surgery, keep in mind that you are more than a product or a commodity. Your surgeon can patch you up or replace your joint, but your outcome depends mostly on you. You are the essential part the team You need to eat properly especially if extremely thin or diabetic, You need to move the limb (or not depending on the treatment), You need to limit or end tobacco use. You need to t up and inflate your lungs and you need to contact your doctor if anything seems to be awry (evers, chils, wound problems, redness about the wound, etc) It is my goal to perform a perfect surgery where you the patient have an exemplary result, but problems can occur despite everything. Infections can occur. Excess bleeding can make wounds pull apart and nerves can be injured. None of these is good, and nobody wishes for them. People with other medical problems and heavy smokers have increased risk for these complications Thankfully, complications are extremely rare, and the majonty of surgeries are successtul However, we all need to approach surgery with our eyes wide open, and recognize that we both play a role in your outcome. My goal of getting Your Life in Motion should be your goal too. McClain is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon.
