JOB OPENING CITY OF KNOX - WATER DEPARTMENT KNOX CITY RATED Position Available: Laborer - Full-Time / Benefits Salary Range (Hrly): $16.00 $20.58 (Based on Experience) A Valid Driver's License and High School Diploma/GED A great opportunity to begin your career with the City of Knox! Applicant must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision. Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and verbally with customers and other City Staff. A laborer for the Water Department will make water line taps; install water services, set meters and meter pits. Repair and replace fire hydrants as required. Rebuild meters and meter reading system. Flush water mains, exercise valves and service hydrants to maintain a safe water system. Respond to emergencies, line breaks, customer water losses and emergency locates. Complete work orders, assist in water testing and other projects as assigned by Water Superintendent. Perform heavy manual labor, particularly as it pertains to the construction, maintenance and repair of the water distribution system and the water plant. Operate construction equipment and power tools. Operate hand-held and office computers to enter and retrieve data. Knowledge, understanding and practicing OSHA safety guidelines for the workplace, including safety equipment. Report Safety issues to the Water Superintendent. Safely handle and store all water treatment chemicals. Attend classes on Chlorine use, storage, handling and emergency plans. Properly follow training for the entry of confined spaces, trench safety and climbing fall equipment. Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets. Weekend duties rotate and employee is required to be on-call that same week (for emergency or non-emergency). Maintain valid driver's license. High School Diploma / GED required. Must be able to lift 80 lbs. Hepatitus shots are required and provided by the City of Knox.
